
Q1. What is the difference between school books and books in the Primary Olympiad?
Ans: Primary Olympiad books are published by the Cambridge University Press. Our books can be used as additional material, they will have an activity based approach, so lots of practice exercises for students to revise and reinforce what they have already learnt.
Q2. Can a student in second grade take Level 1 of the Olympiad?
Ans: No. the levels and the grades are in sync.
Q3. Can a student only buy study material?
Ans: No.
Q4. Can a student just register for the exam without paying for the books?
Ans: No
Q5. What is unique about your Olympiad?
Ans: In collaboration with Cambridge University Press this competition is conducted on a national level. The enrolled students are provided with international standards study material from Cambridge. The students also get a feel of competitive exams that they have to face in future. Competition for standard 1 through 5 students encourages and gives the students an exposure to competitive exams at a younger age.
Q6. Is there a trainer’s guide?
Ans: Yes, we provide a complementary set of trainer’s guide to the school for each of the Olympiads. Teachers can choose to prepare students in their school for the Olympiad.
Q7. Does the school benefit? Do the school teachers receive any certification?
Ans: Yes, at the end of the program, the school receives a trophy, the Principal and the coordinator will receive certificates. A trainer’s guide is provided to teachers involved in the Olympiads. Teachers can use this guide to train students in school. Additionally, teachers involved in coordinating the program will receive a certificate from Cambridge and Firefish. Teachers involved in supervision are also compensated for their service.
Q8. When will the schools receive the books once the order is placed?
Ans: Once we receive the registration forms along with the fees from the school we will ship books within 30 working days to the school.
Q9. When will the students receive the books once the order is placed (For individual registrations)?
Ans: Once we receive the registration form along with the fees from the parent through courier/online, we will ship books within 5 – 7 working days to the students shipping address.
Q10. What awards are given to students?
Ans: All students appeared for the City-Round exam receive very detailed scorecards. Depending on the performance , they also recieve certificates that are categorised into ‘Participation’, ‘Merit’, ‘Distinction’ and ‘Honors’ in the City-Round exam. Students receiving 'Honors' are qualified for National-Round. Winners in the National-Round get both a gold medal and a ‘Gold Medal’ certificate and the participants recieve National-Round participate certificate.
Q11. What is the involvement of teachers?
Ans: It is left open to the school to train the students or keep it as a self study program.
Q12. When is competition held?
Ans: City level round will be conducted in January 2016 and national round is conducted anytime between February 2015-16 to April 2015-16.
Q13. When will children prepare?
Ans: Within 30 days of making the registration amount payment the school will receive the study material . Therefore students get a study time of 4-5 months to prepare for the exam.
Q14. What is the registration procedure if the school signs up?
Ans: The Olympiad coordinator in the school can collect the amount from the students and send us a cheque or DD in favour of Firefish Networks Pvt. Ltd. to our office address mentioned in the registration form.
Q15. Where will the exams be conducted? In school or an external center?
Ans: City level round is conducted in your own school and the national round will be conducted in a centrally located school in your city.
Q16. For the individual registrations, where will the exams be conducted?
Ans: Exam centers are present in all the metro cities, incase the student resides in a non metro city than the exam will be conducted as an online test at home.
Q17. What curriculum are your books based on?
Ans: National curriculum framework (NCF), in-sync with ICSE and CBSE curriculum. Most state board text books are also in sync with the NCF. The books utilize the activity based learning approach.
Q18. Do you send test preparation material?
Ans: Yes, we do send and upload sample test papers for practice as well as upload last year’s question papers on our website and other social media platforms.
Q19. What is a student portal? What does it offer?
Ans: Student portal is for students who have enrolled for the Primary Olympiad; it has all the content on English, Maths and Science in line with the study material received by the students. English consists of Spelling and Grammar, Maths consist of I did it Mathematics, Science consists of I explore and I care. It is like guide and testing partner in case the students wish to prepare for the exam on their own. It has a study calendar which helps students determine when they should be preparing for which topic, answer keys to the exercise questions in the course books, practice test to see how much they have learnt.
Q20. How will I get the user id and password?
Ans: Post registrations, user id and a password created by Primary Olympiad will be provided to the students along with the Primary Olympiad study material. Password can be changed after login.
Q21. Can you send us a copy of the books?
Ans: We do not provide a sample copy of the books but we can send photocopies of the index of each book, so the school can understand the topics covered in each book.
Q22. If a child wants to participate in multiple Olympiads can they do that?
Ans: Yes, they can participate in one, two or all the three Olympiads. Exams will not overlap.
Q23. How will a child attend all 3 exams if all 3 are on the same day?
Ans: Care is taken to ensure that exams do not overlap so students can take part in all the three Olympiads.
Q24. How will it be beneficial to the school?
Ans: The school will receive a trophy. The coordinators will also receive certificates duly signed by Cambridge and Firefish. The winning schools names are updated on the Olympiad website. Winning schools name may also appear in other popular media.
Q25. Are there any special classes with an external faculty conducted for the Olympiad?
Ans: No, It depends on the school whether or not to have special classes. Faculty is not provided from our end. We have both types of schools registered in the Olympiad – those that provide extensive special classes and training in the school and those that do not provide any training and ask the students to self study.
Q26. If the content is the same as in my textbooks, what is the advantage to the students?
Ans: The style of teaching the content is of the highest international level. The content is prepared by renowned experts from the Cambridge University Press. Being a competitive exam, the students get an opportunity to compete nationally with other students across India.
Q27. Do students appear in the city level or do they directly go to the national level? (what are the stages)
Ans: All students participate in the city level exam. Winners at the city round qualify to participate at the National level exam.
Q28. What is the last date of registration for students appearing directly “not through the school” in the Primary Olympiad 2015-16?
Ans:The last date of registration is 31st October 2015..
